Guide: How MSPs can offer connectivity without building a connectivity portfolio

Visual Blog MSP Guide 01

MSPs don't have to choose between ignoring connectivity or investing heavily in it. There's a smarter third option — and it starts with a partnership.

Imagine you've just won a new enterprise client. They love your SD-WAN practice. The deployment is clean, the SLAs are tight, and the relationship is strong. Then they ask: "Can you handle the underlay too? We need DIA and broadband across 14 sites in five countries."

You have three options. Say no, and watch them start shopping for someone who can say yes. Say yes, and spend the next six months navigating carrier negotiations, margin stacking, and a procurement process that moves at geological speed. Or, and this is the one worth reading about, find a smarter way to say yes.

The overlay is only half the story

MSPs and System Integrators have spent years building world-class managed services. SD-WAN, SASE, cloud networking — the overlay stack is mature, differentiated, and profitable. But great overlays still depend on great underlays. And the underlay is exactly where things get complicated.

Enterprise customers increasingly want a single partner who can own the full stack. Not because they're lazy, but because fragmented responsibility creates fragmented accountability. When something breaks at 2am, they don't want to spend an hour working out whose problem it is.

From an MSP perspective, this creates the risk of losing the overlay business if a competitor MSP can offer both.

So the question lands on your desk: do you add connectivity to your portfolio?

But great overlays still depend on great underlays.

Build vs. partner. It's not a fair fight.

The "build it" path looks logical on a whiteboard. In practice, it's a different story.

If you've considered it earlier, you'll know that connectivity is a low-margin service relative to managed services. It doesn't look good on your P&L. To do it properly, you need carrier relationships in every market your customers operate in, a procurement team that knows how to navigate those relationships, and an NOC capable of supporting the underlay 24/7. That's a significant investment — in people, in time, and in infrastructure — before you've signed a single contract.

Then there's the procurement reality. Sourcing global connectivity means dealing with long lead times, chasing multiple ISPs, and the persistent problem of margin stacking: your carrier sources part of the circuit from another provider, adds their margin, and passes the inflated price on to you. By the time the quote lands, you're not competitive — and you're not in control.

How about chasing the local ISPs yourself? Enterprise WAN deployments in emerging markets can take anywhere from 60 to 120 days to activate. That's not a timeline that wins deals.

There's a third option. It's called partnering.

GNX exists to solve exactly this problem. We're not a carrier. We're not a reseller. We're a connectivity partner, giving you, as an MSP, direct access to our global portfolio of DIA, broadband, and mobile access services, without requiring you to invest in new capabilities or the procurement overhead that usually comes with it.

What's more: you’ve got GNX+. Our platform provides transparent access to our entire ISP portfolio and allows you to order services in just a few clicks. You can compare pricing, check availability, and respond to an RFP in hours instead of weeks. No carrier negotiations. No margin stacking. No mystery pricing.

And behind the platform, there's a team of experts and a global NOC that supports the underlay on your behalf. You stay focused on what you're great at. We handle the connectivity complexity. And most importantly, you strengthen your value proposition.

What this actually looks like for your business

Here's what partnering with GNX gives you in practice:

  • Faster RFP responses. Quote connectivity services alongside your managed stack, same day.
  • Competitive pricing. Direct access to GNX rates means no intermediary margins eating into your deal.
  • Full market insight. GNX+ shows you ISP options side by side, so you can recommend with confidence.
  • Faster time to revenue. Less procurement friction means faster deployment and faster billing.
  • A genuine one-stop offer. Serve global enterprise customers without sending them elsewhere for connectivity, while you focus on what you do best.
  • No new headcount required. Our networking experts and NOC become an extension of your team.

Flexible by design

We know every MSP's model is different. So we work in two ways.

  • Sell-through: You contract with GNX and white-label the connectivity into your offer. Your customer deals with one partner (yes, you). You control the relationship, the margin, and the experience.
  • Sell-with: You prefer to refer and co-engage. We work alongside you in the customer relationship as a specialist partner, sharing the opportunity. You add connectivity capability to your pitch without taking on any delivery risk.

Both models are built on the same foundation: transparency, direct access, and a team that's invested in your success, not just the transaction.

You built a great overlay practice. Don't let the underlay be the reason you lose a deal.

The connectivity question isn't going away. Modern enterprises rely on reliable, flexible connectivity services to support their business, and they want partners who can own the full picture. The MSPs that respond to that shift without having to rebuild their entire business will be the ones that grow.

Building a connectivity practice from scratch is a lot. Partnering with GNX isn't.
