Connected logistics: custom network solutions in Samskip’s innovation journey

Samskip is a global logistics company moving goods across Europe by land, sea, rail, and air. With operations this diverse, their connectivity needs are just as varied—whether it’s keeping vessels online, connecting warehouses, or linking any of their 60 offices in 21 countries worldwide.
That’s where we came in. At GNX, we deliver WAN solutions tailored to each of Samskip’s specific needs. No one-size-fits-all here—just the right setup for the job, at a competitive price, and unmatched flexibility, ready to scale as Samskip continues to adopt new technologies and smarter ways of working.
Keep it simple, sailor: straightforward network solutions
Samskip’s network setup looked a lot like many other enterprises: they were already using internet-based WAN, but sourcing it from a patchwork of different providers. A mixed bag of ISPs, SLAs, contracts, and monthly invoices.
With this came the first ask: they needed a partner to help them centralize their internet across different sites and assets. This would allow them to achieve immediate cost savings (one of their main goals) and gain back control of their networks with one single contract, invoice, and NOC for support, while optimizing other connections to meet site-specific requirements, such as:
A fully redundant setup for critical sites
As Samskip leverages automation to optimize their processes, such as labeling, container management, or invoicing, uptime is critical.
Fully redundant DIAs and a combination of broadband services are ideal for those sites, ensuring always-on connectivity for smooth operations.

Private point-to-point for DC connectivity
Internet connections are great, but Data Centers often require an additional security and reliability layer.
Private point-to-points are active across multiple Samskip’s locations, in order to guarantee network core uptime and redundancy. This also enables seamless data replication between HQ and DCs.

Offshore & nearshore connectivity
What about maritime transport?
As Samskip transitions to fully unmanned vessels with high degrees of automation, we are also supporting them with LEO-based deployments to support various use cases: from crew communications to IoT.

A do-it-all partner?
From the start of our relationship, we’ve delivered Samsksip a series of benefits:
- Reduce IT and operational costs, consolidating existing services
- Novate and negotiate expiring contracts to simplify vendor management
- Optimize their infrastructure as they prepare for further innovation
- Meet strict and challenging deadlines
But no. We don’t do it all. Whenever we see that our solution can’t compete with Samskip’s current service or that we cannot match the price, we do not push further. Transparency is at the centre of our DNA and also the reason why this partnership has worked for many years.
GNX has acted as a true partner throughout the entire relationship. They’ve demonstrated skills and knowledge when designing solutions that truly meet our needs, and have provided honest advice at all times, always considering our business goals, not theirs.
